Maybe we’ll start with a commonality. You’re probably reading this because we share a mutual interest in…TRAVELLING! Yes! Or maybe you’re some crazy stalker and you can’t really rule that out these days. I speak from experience, people! But hopefully you’re the former, and we’re cyber travel buddies!
So why do I like to travel? Other than the fact that it means vacation? My real itch for traveling, I’d say, started in 2008. I’m talking real traveling. Like outside the uneventful family vacations, spring break shenanigans, and random road trips. 2008 is when traveling began to change from something I did to break up the routine into something that made me feel more whole. I know that sounds cliche, but life is too short to not explore the world we live in. Do you really want to wake up one day and be like, “man I wish I went there or did that”? No way! Get the f up and do something!
You should know I am a little harsh about culturally ignorant people or those who have never even left their hometown or even hopped on a damn plane. Like seriously?! What the hell! I can already feel the glares and judgement, but come on people! I realize I’m lucky and not everyone has the luxury to whisk themselves away to a foreign land. But where there is a will, there is a way — and if you don’t have the will, then you should read every post on this blog to see what you’re missing out on. If you still don’t care, then, well…we won’t be friends.
Back to why I like to travel — there’s just this high that I get from picking a destination, packing up, and getting gone. Of course I have to make sure I have enough vacation days! Like most of you, I am just a working chump. I hear about people who travel for a living and BOY do I wish I could give that a shot. Wink wink at those lovely sponsors — I am your girl!!!
So what do I hope to achieve with this blog…I have no friggin’ idea, honestly. It was one of the many I-should-do-that ideas that pop in my mind and that I usually don’t bother pursuing! But I’m giving this a shot. I did some research and am taking advice from friends. Social media, huh? Really? Do I have to???
I guess this is all a means to an end — a way to try to get some traction and share my experiences. And on that note, I should clarify that I’m not here to tell you about the top 5 best sights to see in Istanbul, the best restaurants in Sydney, or the best ateliers in Milan. Isn’t that what Trip Advisor is for? Oh! And I’m definitely not here to give you a history lesson on Roman and Greek gods. You have Wikipedia for that, my friend.
What I will do is try to share my experiences and give you all a lens into all of the places that I feel fortunate enough to get to go to. I love to submerge myself in someone else’s day-to-day. I love to learn about new foods, cultures, religions, everything! Perhaps if you haven’t caught the travel bug, the posts and pictures can help to pass that along. This world may seem big, but through my travels, I’ve come to believe that it is getting smaller by the day. From New York City to Kapadokya, it’s all the same shit. I guess not really the same shit, otherwise, what’s the point of traveling? But I guess what I’m trying to get at is that I know a lot of people who don’t like to leave their comfort zone, and I think those people are missing out. I am hoping to use this blog to show people that it’s ok to put aside whatever “differences” they may worry about and remember that we all breathe the same air and that their shit still stinks as much as the next guy’s. Alright, enough about me, let’s get to some traveling!
